Safer Activities for Everyone (S.A.F.E.)

Child Protection

Kuk Sool Won makes a very positive contribution to the lives of children and young people and encourages them to reach their full potential physically, emotionally, socially and personally.  We feel that we have important responsibilities to promote a safe environment and ensure that activities are fun for everybody.  The safeguarding of children and young people is of paramount importance.

With this in mind Kuk Sool Won schools around the country have been doing their best to assess risks and take steps to protect both children and adults by taking part in CRB enhanced checks and adopting child protection policies.  Norwich instructors have also participated in first aid training and child protection courses run by the county council and have been awarded the S.A.F.E. certificate of attainment, meaning that we have successfully demonstrated that we have studied and followed the advice in the pack, including risk assessment and health and safety, to attain S.A.F.E standards.

In Norfolk and Suffolk the NSPCC Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) endorses S.A.F.E. (Safer Activities For Everyone) as meeting the Standards for Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport, which were jointly developed with Sport England in January 2003.  S.A.F.E. is an excellent example of a preventative initiative, which is aimed at helping groups reach high standards in child protection.  The scheme has been developed to assist in the assessment of risk and the development of sound working practices.  We are reviewed annually and certificates last for three years.

All adults have a duty of care towards the children and young people in our school and are responsible for health & safety, first aid, general well-being and child protection.  Our overall aim must be to be aware of risks and minimise situations where abuse may occur, whilst ensuring that children & young people continue to enjoy and benefit from our martial art.
